Comment to be added. I'll pretty much friend anybody; the FO screening is just a precaution.

| Facebook Enters the Political Arena |
[Jul 12, 2006 * 11:00am] |
This week's edition of Time magazine has a tiny article about policicians teaming with Facebook.com in an article entitled "Be My Voter."
In the '90s, the message was "Rock the Vote." Now it's time to "Facebook" it. Starting in September, politicians will be able to buy profiles on networking site Facebook.com accessible to its 8 million members. That should help pols court a group of voters who are hard to reach. Facebookers will be able to "friend" any candidate they like--linking to a profile as they would a classmate's. Facebook says politicians won't pay anything near the tens of thousands of dollars that corporate advertisers do to set up on the site. Politicians should log on, says Markos Moulitsas of the Daily Kos politiblog, because young people "hang out in places like ... Facebook and MySpace," which plans a similar initiative. They're the new town square--great for any candidate who can figure out the online equivalent of a handshake.

I've had it up for a while now, but there's still some editing I need to do.. it's been a low priority for two weeks now. Hmm.
I still check Livejournal almost everyday.. but I'm a lazy bum (an American bum, not a British bum.. at least in this context..)

| An Inconvenient Truth |
[Jun 14, 2006 * 4:29pm] |
An Inconvenient Truth Originally uploaded by Van in NYC.
"This past weekend, Al Gore's movie An Inconvenient Truth earned more pre screen than any film in the country. I daresay Gore’s movie is the highest grossing PowerPoint presentation in history." – Stephen Colbert
I want to see this movie so badly!
There are no theaters that have it here in Fort Worth. It's in one theater in Dallas (the Magnolia). I HATE YOU TEXAS. It's just like I couldn't see Brokeback Mountain until the Academy Award nomination came out. Let me see my liberal propoganda! And I hate the 99 degree weather. Global warming a myth? I DON'T THINK SO.

| Music Wishlist |
[May 30, 2006 * 10:03pm] |
I use my newly acquired iPod to escape from reality and my mom. Consequently, I've worn the songs out from listening to them so frequently. SOLUTION!? Download more music - when the time comes (need DSL or wireless laptop). Anywho, till then, I'm making a list of those songs that would make life more complete:
"Too Sexy" - ... by er, somebody "Stuck in the Middle with You" - ? (Reservoir Dogs) ( rest of list )
Please recommend some of your all-time or current favorites! (Especially classic pop music: I'm gonna need the Backstreet Boys on here, heh. Brings back memories.)
btw, new layout to be inspired by THE OFFICE MARATHON (Thursday, 7-9PM CST) !!!
PS: Job orientation tomorrow morning. Wish me luck.

| Book Communities |
[May 14, 2006 * 8:36pm] |
(as of May 14th)
Today I felt compelled to find an online community of nerdy vigorous readers that I might get the low down on new books, classic books, and popular reading. I wanted to find a RottenTomatoes.com for books: an established social network with a database and a place for me to write reviews equipped with lots of quotes. It seems like (all?) the following sites are still in beta form.
http://chainreading.com · Saved by 119 other people on del.icio.us · Nice layout design · Make lists for recommended, current, planned books · No images sometimes, but at least can locate title and author via ISBN
http://connectviabooks.com · Saved by 95 other people on del.icio.us · “Meh” layout · Search results
http://librarything.com · Saved by 2630 other people on del.icio.us · Boring layout · Lots of users and books
http://reader2.com · Saved by 1033 other people on del.icio.us · Good layout, comprehensive (star rating, tags, genre) · Can add by ISBN! · Network for listing films, programs, knowledge, and ideas · Has a LJ & blogspot community & blog · Registration required
http://storycode.com · Saved by 151 other people on del.icio.us · Used mainly for getting recommendations, I think · Clean, pleasing layout · Connections with Amazon database and ISBN · Interesting system (“novel approach - read, code, find, love”) · Registration required · Test: Doesn’t have Villette listed?!
Others… http://bookcrossing.com http://whatshouldireadnext.com http://listal.com

| Captives to the Consumer Culture |
[Mar 16, 2006 * 7:15pm] |
from Jesus Politics
... I interviewed a woman for the book who lived with her family in Midland, Texas. She and her husband were Presbyterians, and they were church planters there, and they had eight kids, and they were home schooling, and they ate a lot of natural food, and no TV, the whole magilla, and you know she told me, "It's the weirdest thing, we're living in the most Christian, most Republican place we've ever lived, and we look around and we can't see how people's faith affects the way they live their lives at all. They're all captives to the consumer culture. They're all buying their kids the most expensive new things." She said that's not how Christians are supposed to live; that's not how conservatives are supposed to live. "They've sold out to the values of the world, and think that as long as they profess to hold the beliefs of the Christian faith, that that's enough." She might as well be talking about Fort Worth Country Day School.
On another note, I'd like to start a group blog focusing on inter-religious dialogue using Blogger/Blogspot or Livejournal. Religion, I believe, has a profound influence in our personal lives and on world and national events. Despite religion having a large role in life, the universe and everything, it seems that most people have very little interaction with different religions, arising in prejudice, conflicts, and misunderstanding. After all, they essentially share the same values, but go about it in different ways.
Ideally, I want to cover everything interesting that has anything to do with religion, such as... international news (english.aljazeera.net.. eh, I've got nothin' right now..) American/local news Developer Wants Catholic Views to Rule in Florida Town (I know, a lot too much of my stuff focuses on Catholicism :/ help me diversify!), music (like Hasidic reggae star Matisyahu - I have no idea what he's saying, but it sounds awesome), movies (Da Vinci controversy, heh) local events (Blood drive at St. Bart's this Sunday!), musings (see above on Consumer Culture), politics (Can Good Catholics Vote Republican?), group (& individual) podcasts (!!! - I need a mic, that's all. :P .. Well, I'd be happy to podcast about anything, really..) and more. Why limit yourself? :P
Problems: - being busy. (I actually play a sport now; no more managing. APs are coming up in a couple of months. I am an irregular updater on the LJ.. I'm aiming for at least one weekly update - by anybody in the group.) - controversial. (I am not such a tactful person, heh. Well, hopefully I'm more tactful than Pat Robertson, who recently called Muslims "satanic".. Ugh, please, no more, just shut.. mouth..) - finding enough blogging partners to have a diverse input of opinions (Over time, perhaps?)
If you're interested in the idea or participating, comment por favor!

| Porn star |
[Mar 13, 2006 * 2:10pm] |
to meet George W.
Ha ha ha! Isn't this the same porn star that ran for the governor of California that Mr. Boberg (ErBo) taught?!?
The elections in California seemed like a joke, but the canidates in Texas aren't so serious either:
[Kinky Friedman, canidate for governor, had a beer during a Dallas parade. That violated Texas' open-container law, but police don't plan to ticket him.] "Guinness is the drink that kept the Irish from taking over the world. It would be unthinkable not to have a Guinness during a St. Patrick's Day parade. In fact, it would be spiritually wrong." -Kinky Friedman
LOL. regardless, I still want to check out the campaign.. He's a Jewish cowboy who celebrates St. Patrick's Day! COME ON! (Anybody wanna come? :D March 25 on the Trinity River..)

I simply like this picture. Flickr is an amazing site, very helpful for integrating photography into blogging (esp. with Blogspot or Livejournal) - free direct linking!
More goodness: I can have college friends now on Facebook! :)
Liam Neeson is #2 on the 43 Best People list. (Patrick Stewart is towards the bottom. Terry McMillan is there too.. and other people I don't know)
